Innovative Standby Generator Plant Upgrade: Enhancing Facility’s Power Resilience

The existing site was audited to finalize construction requirements and provide detailed construction documentation for required works to alter the existing building structure to enable the installation of a new larger capacity standby generator plant for the site.

Existing plant age, increased site demand along with the required removal of the sites existing underground diesel storage facility saw the client approach GNM to undertake the required works to site and upgrade its site generator while increasing internal fuel storage capacity, increasing airflow requirements for the larger set all while maintaining compliance with required standards, not affecting the performance of the new set and all while using the existing already small plant room available.

A temporary generator was installed and tested ensuring emergency operation through the site’s main switchboard in the event of a power failure. Once acceptance of the temporary services was accepted by the client the existing standby generator plant, associated fuel, and electrical systems were decommissioned and removed from the site as well as redundant ventilation and exhaust systems.

Minor building works including enlarged/discharge penetrations and the installation of new acoustic doors and frames within the room.

New intake and discharge ductwork and attenuators were installed within the room and adjoining undercroft in preparation for the arrival of the new set.

A new Cummins standby generator plant complete with skid bulk fuel take, and load bank was crane lifted and rigged into position within the plant room. A new stainless steel exhaust and muffler system were installed from the new set to the roof 2 stories above the plant room external to the building with all pipework within the room insulated and clad.

New electrical mains and controls were installed and connected to the site’s main switchboard along with an auxiliary DB within the generator plant room for distribution of new services for SGP and plant room general light and power which was upgraded as part of the works.

The new SGP was initially commissioned and load tested with the manufacturer prior to successfully testing on-site services.

Black starts and building load testing was undertaken with the design engineers and client prior to acceptance of the new plant to be put into full operation.

A great result for the client, delivering to their needs and budget and completed within the allocated timeframe.

Integrated HVAC Upgrade

Engaged for a major HVAC upgrade, we collaborated with the client’s team for detailed planning and execution. Temporary systems ensured uninterrupted operation during the complex process of splitting and upgrading the facility's HVAC system. Comprehensive works included new installations, system enhancements, and integrating advanced control systems, ensuring efficiency and modernisation.

Efficient AC Upgrade

The existing main air conditioning system serving this facility was at the end of its maintainable life span. With this in mind and additional future load increases planned for the site we were engaged to provide both design and construction services to provide a solution for the upgrade of the aging plant along with augmenting the existing supplementary units into the new system.

Complete HVAC System Renewal

This project successfully involved the full replacement of the main air conditioning system, upgrading to high-efficiency Temperzone units. Including asbestos removal, new ductwork, and a custom mechanical services switchboard, the project concluded with system testing and balancing, exemplifying our expertise in modern HVAC solutions.

Ductwork Upgrade

This project skillfully enhanced the ductwork system for a data floor, integrating new outlets for equipment suites. Our proposal included ductwork redesign, dropper, damper, and grille installation, with meticulous air and temperature testing for optimal airflow, demonstrating our commitment to innovative and efficient air distribution solutions.

Switchboard and Electrical Infrastructure Transformation

This major project involved upgrading electrical infrastructure, including a new main switchroom and switchboard, to accommodate increased loads from new equipment. Work included building a fire-rated switchroom, excavating for conduits, and coordinating with supply authorities, culminating in a seamless integration of new emergency lighting and generator systems.
